Enhance Your Sports Facility with Gorilla Netting's Sports Lighting Solutions

Gorilla Netting sets the poles and mounts the fixtures for sports lighting projects across the Southeast US, working alongside your lighting contractor. Pole setting is core work for our crews, the same crews that set the poles for our netting systems.

Why Choose Gorilla Netting for Sports Lighting in the Southeast US?

Our crews set poles with our own derrick digger trucks, on your chosen pole type. We work from your lighting contractor's plan, so every pole goes in at the right height and position for the fixtures it carries.

How We Work With Your Lighting Contractor

We set the poles and mount the fixtures. Your lighting contractor handles the lighting design, wiring, and electrical, and we coordinate schedules so the poles are ready when they need them. If your field also needs netting, the same crew can set those poles on the same trip.

What We Bring to a Lighting Project

Pole Setting

Your chosen pole type set to the height and depth your lighting plan calls for.

Fixture Mounting

We mount the fixtures on the poles, ready for your lighting contractor to wire and aim.

One Crew for Poles and Netting

Fields that need lights and netting get both sets of poles from one crew in one trip.

Reuse What Works

Existing fixtures can often go back up on new wood poles, which can save on replacement costs.

Working with Gorilla on your lighting poles means:

  • Poles set by Gorilla's own crews
  • Fixtures mounted to your lighting contractor's plan
  • One schedule for poles and netting on shared fields
  • Existing fixtures reused where possible

Types of Sports Lighting Poles: Concrete, Steel, Aluminum, and Wood Options

The type of poles used in sports lighting systems directly impacts the performance, safety, and aesthetics of the sports facility. Sports lighting poles are the backbone of any sports lighting system, supporting the fixtures and ensuring they are positioned correctly for optimal illumination. Each type has its own benefits and considerations.

Concrete Poles

These poles are known for their durability and resistance to environmental factors like wind and weather. They are typically precast and can be installed quickly and efficiently. Concrete poles can be customized to different heights and are often used in high-traffic areas due to their strength and longevity.

Steel Poles

Steel poles offer a balance of strength, durability, and cost-effectiveness. They are typically made from high-strength, low-alloy steel conforming to ASTM A572 Grade 65 or ASTM A595 Grade A, and can be designed in various shapes and sizes to fit different sports lighting needs.

Many manufacturers offer pre-engineered steel poles designed to meet specific wind load and EPA requirements. This ensures the poles are optimized for their intended use, reducing the need for on-site modifications and speeding up installation. Some of our manufacturers offer pre-engineered steel poles designed to support a specific number of lighting fixtures, in various heights and wind load ratings.

Steel poles are typically hot-dipped galvanized: the pole is immersed in a bath of molten zinc, which reacts with the steel to form a zinc-iron alloy layer. This layer provides a barrier against corrosion, so the pole can withstand exposure to the elements for many years.

Wood Poles

Wood poles are a popular choice for their durability, strength, and cost-effectiveness. They are typically made from either Southern Yellow Pine or Ponderosa Pine, both known for their resistance to decay and insect damage. Wood poles can be treated with preservatives to further extend their lifespan, which can be up to 70 years or more with proper maintenance.

Wood poles are available in various sizes and classes, ranging from 20 feet for smaller fields to 70 feet or more for larger stadiums. They have a relatively low cost compared to steel or concrete poles, are easier to install, and can be used with existing light fixtures, which can save on replacement costs.

Aluminum Poles

Aluminum poles are lightweight and easy to install, making them a cost-effective option for sports lighting. They are also resistant to corrosion and can be designed in various styles to match the aesthetic of the sports facility.

When selecting sports lighting poles, consider the height and weight of the lighting fixtures, the environmental conditions of the sports facility, and the aesthetic preferences of the facility owners. Working with Gorilla Netting ensures the right type of pole is selected for your specific needs.
