AfterElizabeth City State University in Elizabeth City, North Carolina needed a fully enclosed outdoor facility for UAV research and training. Gorilla Netting designed and delivered a large-scale netted drone enclosure, procured through a competitive government bid process.
The challenge
What the program needed
ECSU required a 250 ft long, 100 ft wide, and 55 ft above-grade enclosure for UAV operations, with a drive-through door and a walk-through entrance.
The site was the hard part: soft soil, with the water table within the first five feet, which called for a custom foundation and pole design. The project also went through a formal government bid process, with Gorilla Netting engaged as a preferred vendor.
What we built
The system we designed and installed
Gorilla Netting developed four separate estimates covering both wood and steel pole options, each configured to perform in the soft soil. Engineering was coordinated with a licensed PE to address the findings of the soil report.
The final system includes a drive-through access point and a walk-through pedestrian entrance. Chain-link fencing and lighting infrastructure were also part of the project scope.
