In late 2020, the Puerto Rico Department of Corrections approached Gorilla Netting to design an anti-contraband security perimeter netting system as a test pilot program at one of its prisons. Working with a local prime contractor, Gorilla Netting led the design and installation.

The challenge

What the facility was up against

Contraband such as weapons, drugs, and cell phones puts security personnel and inmates at risk, and can fuel violence and criminal activity inside and beyond the facility.

Newer methods like drone deliveries make keeping contraband out a distinct challenge for correctional institutions.

What we built

The system we designed and installed

Gorilla Netting designed and engineered a security perimeter netting system for the tropical environment of Puerto Rico, spanning two separate housing units at the correctional complex.

The system is built on steel support poles with powerline and utility-grade hardware, wire rope, and a netting material that stays confidential.

The outcome

What it means for the facility

A Puerto Rico Department of Corrections prison has an anti-contraband security perimeter netting system spanning two housing units, built on steel poles for the tropical environment. It acts as a physical barrier that complements the facility's existing security measures, and it is backed by a full coverage 5-year warranty on the netting system, materials, and labor.
