Bill Wood Field in North Platte, Nebraska is operated by the North Platte Legion Baseball Board. Gorilla Netting replaced its backstop with a new cable-suspended tie-back backstop netting system, 120 ft long and 40 ft high, on new steel poles.

The challenge

What the field was up against

The existing backstop netting system was outdated and did not meet the required standards for wind resistance and overall performance.

The Legion Baseball Board wanted a new system that would give players a safe playing environment and improve the experience for the fans in the stands.

What we built

The system we designed and installed

Gorilla Netting designed a custom cable-suspended tie-back backstop for Bill Wood Field, engineered by a licensed professional engineer (P.E.) to meet local building wind codes, environmental and government codes, or higher.

The crew set new steel poles and hung #36 1-7/8" twisted knotted netting with powerline and utility-grade hardware and wire rope, taking care to limit equipment wear on the grounds and keep a clean, safe workspace.

The outcome

What it means for players and fans

Bill Wood Field has a new 120 ft by 40 ft cable-suspended tie-back backstop on new steel poles with #36 twisted knotted netting, engineered to local wind codes and backed by a full coverage 5-year warranty on netting, materials, and labor, keeping foul balls contained for players and spectators.
